79th A/T Reg Royal Artillery (T.A)

Did the 79th, when they arrived in North Africa in June 1942 have their 6 Pdrs? Or were they still on 2 Pdrs, or did they have no guns at all, until later?

Hi David,
According to http://members.tripod.com/~nigelf/anti- ... #EQUIPMENT 6 Pdr started being delivered to North Africa April 1942. However, according to this page http://members.tripod.com/~nigelf/regtsum.htm#atkregt 79 AT Regt were in India, Iraq, Persia and Syria but not North Africa.

You might like to poke around on this website for other info and hopefully I just misunderstood something

This site puts them in N.A briefly as part of 8th Army.

Other than I have it on 103, 104 & 105 Bty at this time; no!

Joslen states that the RHQ 79th A/T Reg Royal Artillery was disbanded on 25.5.42 with its 3 batteries being posted to various Indian formations under 1oth Army.

On 27.6.42 the Regiment was reformed in Egypt by GHQ MEF. Its original 3 batteries were recalled from 10th Army and the regiment was under 8th Army command.

10.9.42 was under 31st Indian Armoured division command.

As usual with Joslen no mention is made of the equipment used.

So, under 8th Army command 27/06/42 - 10/09/42. Probably in Egypt somewhere?
