American Purple Heart

In my wanderings I saw a Purple Heart medal with a leaf on its ribbon.

I have searched the internet for an explanation to what this leaf is. Unfortunately none of the sights on the Purple Heart say anything other than it is the American decoration for wounds.

Can anyone tell me what this thing is and if there is anything else of relevence?

(1) A Purple Heart is authorized for the first wound suffered under conditions indicated above, but for each subsequent award an Oak Leaf Cluster will be awarded to be worn on the medal or ribbon. Not more than one award will be made for more than one wound or injury received at the same instant or from the same missile, force, explosion, or agent.
