Max Horton

Post by Rodger Herbst »

Max,I believe, was very successful in commading the Western Approches but was unpopular with the high command. Why,anyone know?

Anyone seem to know why many succesful leaders seemed to have a bad rap against them from higher HQ, Dowding, etc. it wasn't just a British thing, all armies, allied and axis as well.

Rodger, the only thing I know about Horton was that when things got bad he did close the Western Approaches to traffic, and held it close against ALL demands until he felt safe to reopen. THAT alone would be enough to guarantee command-level strife for him!
