US commanders at Malmedy during Battle of Bulge

Post by Chema »

Hi Guys.
Anybody know the names of US commanders at Malmedy during the attack of Skorzeny´s Brigade (at Battalion/Rgt level)?
I know the units present were 1st and 3rd Batt/120th Inf Rgt, 99th Inf Rgt, elements of 526 Armd Infantry Bat, elements of 823rd and 825th Tank Destroyers Battalions and elements of 291st Eng. Batt.

Cheers.

Major Chema,

It might be a good idea to write your supposed rank as Sturmbannführer (without the h and with double n)

Just my 2 cents,

Chema,
According to my sources 99th Inf Rgt wasn't involved at all (but maybe I'm wrong, God forbid!). OTOH there was the 99th Inf Bn which definitely was in the Malmedy area at the (which was commanded by LtC Harold Hansen).

Here are some answers about the CO:s of the units in question.
120th Inf Rgt: Col Branner Purdue
1st Bn/120th Inf Rgt: LtC Ellis Williamson
3rd Bn/120th Inf Rgt: LtC Peter Ward
526 Armd Infantry Bn: Maj Paul J. Solis
291st Eng. Bn: Col David E. Pergrin

I'm afraid I have no info on either the 823rd or the 825th TD Bn but will return after more investigation.
