Verwundeten-Abzeichen in Gold

Post by Hans »

Does anyone know if this award was made to all KIA/MIA? My father was posted MIA and later officially declared dead. There is no indication in his records that he was awarded this award. Yet apparantly from info. I have it would appear that it was awarded for amongst other things, "Death in the line of duty."

I believe the gold version of this award was indeed given to soldiers KIA, but not necessarily to ALL soldiers KIA. There were likely too many killed as the war dragged on to award one to everyone "deserving" of it.

Suggest you check out http://www.lexikonderwehrmacht.de. They have award requirements you might be interested in.
