Date On Award Documents

Post by Phil S »

I would like to know if the date on an award document for Iron Cross 2nd class was the actual date the heroic act took place or is it the date the award was approved. To earn a combat badge like the IAB a solider must be in combat for a number of days and I have read that often these were not awarded for many months after the soldier had indeed qualified for the award. But in the case of a medal for heroism I was thinking that maybe the date on the document corresponds with the act of bravery. Any help would be appreciated.

Generally it is the date the award was written/awarded. Sometime this can be weeks/months after the event due to fighting etc.
