Hi there,
I´m triying to do a little research about my grandfather, he won a very rare award for surviving the demyansk held against the russians, he´s no longer alive, and im triying to found a list or a register of the soldiers who won this award, based on the little info my father haves, the award was gave to under 400 soldiers.
Any info will help me a lot!
Thanx

Hello go_lenz and welcome to Feldgrau!
Are you referring to the "Demjanskschild", instituted on 25.04.1943? Over 100.000 if these were awarded. The german units in the Demjansk pocket consisted of the 12., 30., 32. and 290. Infanterie-Divisionen as well as the SS-Totenkopf-Division. See link for pictures and facts about the "Demjanskschild"...
