Hi Rolf, I am a long-term smoker myself. In fact, my Mother died of lung-cancer, but even that didn't persuade me to quit. We all have weaknesses, but that doesn't alter our sorrow at anyone's death. So, I hope a peaceful and happy eternity awaits your friend.
Reb-- Very Very Happy for your son-in-law!!
HaEn, not much to say, except that I do think that Heaven or Valhalla will await you much longer than you might think. After-all, you and Rudi are sort of the "Guardian Angels" of this site!!
Very Best, To All!
David

Re: Death....
Death can't be any worse than life and as I enjoy life it can't be that bad. The worst that can be said about it, and Schopenhauer has already said it, is: "After your death you will be what you were before your birth" and that can't be bad.

Re: Death....
Hi Folks,
Not posted for a while, for that matter not been online much for a while. Greetings to all the usual suspects. I checked FG for the first time in about 5 months tonight, and this post caught my attention.
Death? I'm scared shitless of it. Not the actual process of dying, but of the fact that (IMHO) this is the performance, the main event...this is my (our) only chance to live, to feel, etc, etc. I imagine the actual process of dying will be a 'unique' experience, one that could be written about, had you the time. It's the essence of life...open your eyes, even in the face of death, and you will learn something, you will feel something.
All I want is 70 or 80 years. I'll quite 'happily' go after that point, as long as I've taken every opportunity, chased every dream, and having never said no to anything. I've lived to that ethos so far, and christ, I've had fun.
Oh, and RE smoking...@#% awful habit, innit? I've approaching my 10 year point with the tabac, and getting quite frankly fed up with it. David touched upon how we ignore the dangers, even when smoking takes one of our family...and although us smokers acknowledge the threat of lung cancer, even when it confronts us personally, we ignore it. Crazy. Myself, I'm thinking of quitting because it's starting to smell pretty bad, and hey, it aint exactly conduitive to keeping the air bags healthy, eh? There's other reasons also, but at the end of the day, it's a dying habit...ba-boom tish.
Death? Inevitable. I just wish we got a 80 year guarantee with life. After all, that's what life is for, living.
Take it easy folks, cheers,

Well Phylo, no offense, but screw drinking--I have other activities in mind!Even in eternity...you'd have time to drink???
The question to me is, in Heaven, would one have time for the finer pleasures of life..........?
And I don't mean picking out your favorite drapery colors.....
