I'm just curious, and probably a lot around here would prefer to remain anonymous, but what is your profession or job? What do you do in your free time?
To start us off, I'm a high school history teacher. In my free time I read, paint, spend time with my wife, and am addicted to Battlefield 2 (I'm a Captain).
What about you?
What do you do away from Feldgrau?

Wow, how nice to meet a fellow teacher here. Actually, unfortunately I have not yet been able to teach history (which I am certified in), because in my part of the US it is difficult to find a history job unless you also want to coach sports, which I do not. But, it looks like in the fall I will finally be teaching history.
Do you teach Swedish history, European history, world history, or all of them?

So you must be a Coach to be able to teach history classes? I teach classes in history, world religions, geography and political science and my students are between 13 to 16 years old. When it comes to the history classes, for these age groups in the Swedish school system it's mainly European and World history. I've just spent the last six weeks teaching about the Weimar Republic, the history of the NSDAP, the Third Reich and subsequently World War Two...
More traditional Swedish history is now basically stowed away in lower grades for pupils aged about nine to twelve and I don't mind that so much... at all!
I hope you'll find a good teaching position at some nice school where you and your family live. It's a great job!
With best regards,
Krollspell

RE: What Do You Do Away From Feldgrau?
Greetings to both brother Spiegelsaal and the community as a whole. Well sir, in light of your finely detailed introductory posting of Thursday - February 21, 2008 - 9:24am, old Uncle Bob was curious behind your reasoning (if any) for omitting this personal data from your viewable profile information? Oh, and by the way, you are far from being a minority in that respect. The vast majority of the neighborhood's rank-and-file membership rarely enter any personal data within their viewable profile information. Thank you in advance for entertaining my pointed inquiry. Well, that's my initial two cents worth on this passing topic of interest - for now anyway. In anycase, I would like to bid you an especially copacetic day down in the Lone Star State.

I myself (Ex-Hans Knospler) am a student in eighth grade . Yes...I'm sure that is rare around here...
I reenact with a topnotch reenacting unit, the 3PGD and specifically study European History in school. Math is my falling point . I'm top in my school on the topic of WWII and specifically the Third Reich, as well as the Second Reich for the Imperial WWI Era, and I'm currently researching a German soldier's by the name of Wilhelm Dertinger and his brother Hermann Dertinger. When finished with my reenacting impression I'd like to collect relic battlefield helmets and wartime photoalbums.

Me I'm one wrung on the ladder above (or perhaps below) a lawyer: journalist.
By day I write about the military for Navy News, the paper of the Royal Navy. By night I write about people in jackboots and steel helmets. That's it. There's nothing else. Apart from the odd trip to the cinema. Or the pub.

Used to work for the government [wish I could say "for the people"]. Now reaping the rewards of my compliance in retirement. Can't figure out how I ever had time to go to work.
Spend my time in research both military and family related. Volunteer for all sorts of things. Travel a lot. Collect stuff. Read. Write, especially to politicians. Spend time at Uni. studying this and that. Love zoos, hikes. Go to Gym. Transfer 1,000s of slides to DVD - bores me to tears. The list goes on, but the greatest thing in my life is my wife. Super special.

c £24,000 a year as a senior journalist with 15 years experience and two awards to my name. Hours are rubbish and people scream at you The plus side is that it's interesting and you get a buzz from it.
As for the book, I've clawed back about £3,000 of my outlay... and spent it all on source material future books....

Time away from feldgrau....is this possible?? I work as an IT Service Manager (ITIL Master) and certified IT Project Manager. Keeps me off the street and the industry is constantly changing so you don't get board. Also part time army (Australian Army Reserve) which funds my military collecting hobby.

Amarillo
Hello Spiegelsaal:
I hate to digress, but in my younger days I had one of the finest Mexican meals of my life in Amarillo Texas. The restaurant was a big red barn and all of the food was hand-made before the customers eyes. Being young and perpetually hungry, I ordered a combination platter and ate the whole darn thing. I have dreams about that place, but have never gotten back to Amarillo to find out if it is still there. Any idea what it might have been called?? I was there in the mid-70's. I loved Amarillo by the way. Best wishes.
