a short history of Germany

Post by Dragunov »

I was at a 'tourism exibit' (done by students) at my school today and as i walked by a booth about Germany, something caught my attention.

on the side of the display, there was a title labled HISTORY and below it was "AKA Adolf Hitler". then i had one of those    @{ moments where i wanted to slap the person by the booth. since when did the world's history start at 1935 and skip the 67 years to 2007? sure, the Nazis were a shameful but significant event in Germany's history but this?!?!?

below it was a pic of AH with an x through it and a pic of Auschwitz(?) (arbeit macht frei or sommat like that on a gate).

GAH! people can be sooooo ignorant...

anyone else have a similar incident?

Loads of times, but not the same.

Just ignorant people saying to me, "Are you German?"
I say "Yes"
They say "Then your a Nazi, right?"

It makes me want to throw up because these people aren't the LEAST bit educated.

 :x

The fact that he doesn't accurately know the Message on the Gate, or the fact that people put that there?

The fact that he complains about "ignorant people" yet doesn't show even basic knowledge about the Auschwitz.

The Auschwitz? Has it become a band now? :?

define "basic knowledge". the pic was just a plain sign labeled 'Arbeit Macht Frei' on a nondescript badbed wire fence. that's all, not the infamous gate at Auschwitz. and that phrase was used on more than just one concentration camp.

you'd probably say more or less the same thing if you were in my position. :?
