a virtual trip to the Canadian War Museum

Post by Dragunov »

today's portion: ww1.

Image
a WW1 Canadian soldier.

Image
Ross rifle. 100% pure Canadian made crap. jammed like there were only two tomorrows but was very accurate and great as a sporting rifle. .303 and straight pull action.

Image
another view. if you didn't know, the bolt is open.

Image
the weapons wall!

Image
a painting of Canadian troops somewhere.

Image
a... big gun? some cannon, but i don't really know what caliber or...

Image
John McCrae's M1911 I believe.

Image
a porthole and some other parts from the Lusitania.

Image
a something on spy techniques and stuff. no, the carrier pidgeon is not real.

Image
the invincible Canadian soldier, now equipped with SMLE.

Image
Ross sniper rifle. the scope is on the left side.

Image
more sniper and MG stuff. the armour is for gerry MGers.

Image
Oh the No! It's a the Boche!!! note the moustache...

Image
lewis gun with periscope.

Image
another weapons wall

Image
German MG. note ww2 ish ammo can.

Image
Flieger!!!

Image
boom?

Image
barrel wear. just kidding, it was blown when the Germans retreated from Vimy (summat like that)

Image
iron cross and bit of a biplane.

Image
instruments of pain... or healing?

Image
a 'silencer' or (ahem ahem) a grenade launcher for SMLE

Image
armored car with Vickers.

and now for a sneak peek at the WW2 section... coming soon as the images take forever to load in such quantity...

Image

if you would like some additional pics of something, i might have 'em so throw something at me...

Cheers!

OK now!

Image
pilot training stuffs.

Image
a Canadian fighter plane? nope, a primitive flight sim, i think.

Image
helps to be prepared, the Atlantic is brutal.

Image
depth charge launcher.

Image
Enigma. wish it was mine :(

Image
Canadian trooper, Battle of Hong Kong.

Image
Jap troop, same theater.

Image
Canadian made exports. sten, bren, browning hi-power, lee-enfield.

Image
more exports. radio in RUSSIAN and 2 inch mortar.

Image
kid's games.

Image
crossbow: European design, made in Canada (by POWs). oh yeah, the reising smg in .45 too.

Image
a 'fragment' of a .30 browning, from a bomber.

Image
Flakalackalacka!

Image
Flieger! this one's a spitfire.

Image
some instrument for the flak. can someone tell me what it is, before i make a thread about it and waste precious bandwidth?

Image
another shot of the same thing.

Image
flak breech, gerry with shell and bomber (type?) wheel.

Image
oh no! the Italians! (not I-talians)

Image
Projecter! Infantry! Anti-Tank!

Image
i heard (from sniper1shot, actually) that this StuG was dragged up from an Albertan target range. so the dommage! is not really authentic. go ahead and carbon date it.

Image
the Thompson, supposedly the only Ami weapon Canadian troops respected.

Image
No! i said sturmgeschütz, not sturmgewehr!

Image

Image

Image

oh yeah... plenty of 'junk' shots (not much, really) of the interior, just ask...

Image
grenades.

Image
Fallschirmjäger!

Image
surely our beloved government wouldn't leave a live gun near public hands? right. the mag is welded, and the only moving parts are the mag release button and the 200m flip up sight.

Image
i'm gonna get you, ya dirty jerry...

Image
browning hi-power. so well made, the sights are adjustable to 200m. actually, we're just optimistic.

Image
James Bond's toys.

Image
our ultra high-tech lander sim. actually it's pretty cool.

Image
MG-42. beaute, aint it?

Image
a peek at the vehicle hall, more on that later.

Image

Image

still more to come...

Yes, thats a Link Trainer, used to try and give trainees some experience of night flying and blind flying dead-reckoning navigation.

Er, no harm to the Canadian Army....but they don't seem to have been able to bend the StuG too badly LMAO

Impressive museum you have over there! A proper old-fashioned display with lots of interesting items, properly labelled. None of the silly gimmicks that are popular in the UK like revolving display cabinets that change round at the push of a button, interactive computer touch-screen displays, but at the expense of actual exhibits! No, the Canadians certainly got it right with this place.

The Bren is interesting. With the straight magazine it must be chambered for either 7.92mm Mauser (Inglis made a lot for the Nationalist Chinese) or else 7.62 Nato postwar.

I noticed that! Though I thought the postwar change for the NATO cartridge came among with a rebarrelling to an FN-style flash suppressor?

...uhh..err.. well, we're supposed to be peacekeepers. ok, maybe we ran out of funding... well, we preserve history well!

the bren... well, the Czech design had a straight mag. early version, perhaps? and those were all export things, the bren has Chinese markings. if the Chinese used 7.92, then mg42 is probably correct.

and we had a comp for the enigma, it could encrypt stuff. the system was wrong though, as all the wheels turned when you pressed a key. a nice sim can be found here:

Hmm whenever I go to visit my relatives in Newfoundland I might have to try and visit some museums up in Canada.

Jagdpanzer IV compared to the Matilda
it's a valentine. that one was dragged up from a lake in Ukraine or some other former USSR state and given back as thanks.

Ah, quite right Dragunov!!

But still, my point was the diffrences between a realtively useless British tank and the Jagdpanzer IV. The L/70 75 mm could kill any tank at 1,000 meters.
