It was Totenkopf. Gross Deutschland was Heer I think you mean Das Reich which was Waffen-SS.

GD used a Stahlhelm. Of course, the Panzertruppen did have skulls on their lapels, but not on their vehicles.

Yeah, this sort of thing makes you glad to be a "proud denzien of the British Isles". Mitchell and Webb (the creators of this sketch) are very on the money, and I was gratified to see them shed light on a relatively unknown topic in the field of comedy.
David Mitchell (The short, chubby guy) is probably very into WWII, he looks like a good lad. Check out 'Peep Show' if you are interested in more of their comedy.
