Writing a Waffen SS novel

Post by Helmut Von Moltke »

hi guys, I plan to write a novel about a LSSAH soldier named Hans Walter (made up) and his battles, along with his love life (add a bit of romance) . heh heh, I will try to include everything historically accurate, like Lichterfeld Kaserne, Sepp Dietrich, Panzermeyer, Kampfgurre Peiper, etc. What do you kameraden think? And heh heh, you know where might I find a publisher? I was thinking about sending this to "Der Freiwilige" magazine of Waffen SS veterans and seeing what they think, and if they like it I might ask them for publication... what do you think about that? thanks for any help :D

Most publishers no longer accept manuscripts directly. They require an agent to submit it on an author's behalf. Reduces the work load of their readers. Eliminates the pathetic works.

Agents can be found in the various writer's journals and magazines.

There's a book for writers that lists agents and publishers, their specialties
and such types of works they will do. I can't think of the name right now.

Good luck.

hi guys, I might post what I have done so far on my Waffen SS novel "A Very Long Date"

Chapter 1: (Introduction)
Villers - Bocage, 13 July 1944

SS - Untersturmfuhrer Michael Wittmann, in his smart black Panzer uniform with the 2 flashing lightning runes - the symbol of the SS - jumped into his Tiger. "Hans, follow me with the Panzergrenadiers into the toen in 15 minutes!" "Ja Wohl Michael!" answered Hans. Unlike the Heer, Hans did not click his heels, etc - in the Waffen SS, officers and men talked informally, as there was a system of respect for the man, not the rank. Hans heard the high pitched shriek of the 88 mm gun of Michael's Tiger over and over again, with sounds of exploding tanks in the background.

15 minutes later, as Hans and his Panzergrenadier platton charged into the shattered, skeletal remains of the town of Villers - Bocage, he ecountered burning wrecks of British tanks everywhere. This town's name, along with the name of Wittmann, will remain a cornerstone in the mythology of the Waffen SS.

(I will post one chapter a day :D )

cheers

Well , not only that historians are boring us to death with that Wittmann-stuff , no , now we get it even "served" as a novel

Push your phantasy a little ! How about a little more "uncommon" setting ??

Chapter 2:Training

Lichterfeld Kaserene, 1938

Hans Walter struggled to lift himself, his M35 helmet, is gas mask, all his heavy equipment and ammunition, on top of the tall wooden fence. "Get your f*ckin s*its up there at once, you swinde, you think yiu're worthy to be SS!?" the drill instructor, SS - Unterschaufuhrer Brecker screamed. Brecker was a veteran of the trenches of the great war, awarded the Iron Cross First Class, and the wound badge in black. That explained his toughness.

After finishing the climb over the wall, with the heavy MG34 machine gun, Hans assembled with his platoon in the drenching mud, soaked with rain. Hans felt drenched and miserable in his now wet camo cmock and extremly heavy uniform, crushing down on him. Brecker said "right. Each of youu will carry a fellow comrade on his shoulder, with both of your weapons and heavy equipment, and run to the top of that hill. You will prove if you are worthy to be a German soldier. Remember, sweat in training saves blood in battle." Everyone in the platoon, including the Untersturmfuhrer, with a comrade n his back, struggled up the hill. There were screams and grunts. Brecker screamed "Quicker, or I will shower you with MG fire!" Brecker then waved to a MG34 squad manned by Totenkopf unit toops in full battle gear. Machine gun fire racked everywhere, sending the whole platoon scourging for cover in the mud. No one was hit, this well designed fire was designed to humiliate, not to kill.

Hands, his head in the mud, starts to remember nice things like he met his fiancce while he was in the HJ (Hitlerjugend), and how much better life was there.

Cheers :D

Your chapters need to be alot longer IMO. If it's going to have 10 short chapters it's going to be like an 8 year old's book.

Chapter 3 - Memories

Black Forest, 1933

At the age of 13, in 1933, Hans Walter stepped out of the National Socialist Jungvolk recruiting station. He thought he looked like the old teutonic knights, with his black sidecap, brownshirt, black shorts, and the red - wgite - black swastika armband of the Hitlerjugend. This was a moment Hans would never forget for the rest of is life: his step into a future, unforgettable career that would remain with him for the rest of his life.

Hans and quite a few of his comrades, all in HJ uniform, hiked along the mountain path. They were lead by a HJ leader in his early twenties, barely 10 years older than Hans. The Hitlerjugend was basically Youth led by youth. The leader screamed "Jurry up, comrades, what would happen if you walked like this in battle?" Hans's friends chuckled. Hans thought and said to himself in his brain "What's wrong with these stupid foreign news media that portrays the HJ as youth completely blinded by weird master race theories? Our minor HK leader here, Schmidt, is just teaching us honour, morals, character, obedeince, and how to do good for the fatherland!"

The hike stopped. Schmidt said "All right mates, rest. Come back in 30 minutes or I'll kick your ass! he grimaced with an evil smile. Hans and his friends chuckled away. Hans wondered off in a narrow path, until he just froze. His mouth gaped wide open. There, kneeling, picking flowers, was the ideal girl he wanted to marry. She was thin, had neat hair tied back into a bun, and had piercing blue eyes. Hans just blushed out, his cheeks completely red. "uhm, umm..... hello, my name is Hans... Hans Walter of the HJ, can.. I help you in any way... umm, what is your name?" Hans stuttered. The girl, wearing black and white BDM (The Leaugen of German Girls), answered in a very sweet, angel like voice "My name is Claudi, I am from the BDM, hi Hans. Could you please help me pick up those roses? " Hans, while doind this, faced a very unexpected question. 'Hans, what is your address? We should know each other better!" Claudi then hugged Hans, and gave him a kiss on the cheek. Hans could no longer restrain himself, he put his arms aound Claudi, and madly kissed.

Chapter 4 - No Mercy!

Hans was screamed out of his love memories by Brecker. "What the f*ck, get out of your dreams asshole!" Hans naturally felt his fist fly into Brecker's face. Brecker, now on the floor, cynically grinned. "You young one, have commited a big mistake. You are going to the Leibstandarte regiment.... there'is gunna be a war with the Czechs soon, and you will be the first to die, you heroic horse's ass! Brecker then screamed out with laughter.

Hans entered the office of SS - Obergruppenfuhrer "Sepp" Dietrich, commander of the elite unit, the Leibstandarte SS "Adolf Hitler" regiment, LSSAH or LAH for short. Hans was gripped by fear, expecting screams. Instead, he received the opposite. Sepp, a semi bald, slightly plump man in his forties, greeted Hans with a warm handshake. "Hans, I cannot help but admire this kind of daredevil spirit. It is this type of spirit that we need in the new combat arm of the SS, our new Waffen SS, as we might be at war any moment. hmm, perhaps you should go to Kurt Meyer's Panzerjagerkompanie? Kurt's a nice guy. Hans, shocked, could only mutter "Yes, Obergruppenfuhrer." He them smashed into the 'Hitlergruess' and walked out of the toom, stunned that Sepp could talk so freely to him. SS Untersturmfuhrer Kurt Meyer, a normal looking man in his thirties with Hair combed back and an almost invisible moustache, greeted Hans with a pat on Hans's shoulder. "Hi, I will command you now comrade! I am Meyer. Now, let's get this nasty sh*t dirty camo smock off you, shall we not?" Hans grimaced. He went into a changing room and put on a new uniform. Only that this M36 SS uniform was different, It had "AH" on the shoulder boards, and a blue cufftitle with white writing proclaiming "Adolf Hitler". It was the uniform of the Leibstandarte, quite unique. Hans felt a feeling of pride, beloning to an elite unit. As he stepped out of the room, Meyer put a SS sidecap onto Hans's head. "You are now one of us" said Meyer. Hans felt his pride reinforced, and he knew by instinct these were his real comrades, not Brecker and his loons.

thanks for the feedback 17th SS Panzergrenadier, I will try to write more on my next chapter about the Polish campaign.

Cheers :D

Chapter 5 - To Poland!

4:30 AM, 1 September 1939, Polish border

A few hours ago the radio crackled out the news. It had been assumed that Polish soldiers had attacked a German radio station, and thus a state of war existed between the German Reich and Poland. Hans quickly finished scribbling his letter to Claudi.
"Best Wishes.
I hope this will be over so I will see you again. Regards. Hans."
Hans stuffed the letter into his M35 helmet, which now had a camoflauge cover, and then advanced with Meyer's Panzerwehrabteilung, into the snarling artillery fire.

September 7, outside Lodz

Hans mounted guard at the field headquarters of the Leibstandarte. A Heer liason officer explained to Sepp Dietrich "We have to cut off Pabiance, but the Polish 28th Infantry Division and the Wolynska cavalry brigade are trying to bash through us. The Leibstandarte must counterattck, what is your plan Sepp?" "The 1st battalion will isolate Pabiance from the noth, the 2nd will move south and cut it off, while the 3rd will remain in reserve with the artillery on the highway. What support will I get Hauptmass?" answered Sepp. "The Heer support will be a Kompanie from the 17. Infantarie Division and a few Panzer IIs from Panzerregiment 23, I'm afriad not much." answered the Hauptmann, skeptically. Sepp Dietrich smiled, punched a fist into the ait and said in a confident voice "We'll show them!" Everyone cheered, climbed into their vehicles or began to advance, full of enthusiasm.

Hans, with the II.Battalion, found a second highway. The Poles had dug in trenches and pillboxes along it. Machine gun fire ripped along the pathof an advancing squad, even though it cold not aim carefully because the SS men's camoflauge smocks blended them in with the enviroment. 1 man was ripped down, and 2 morre lying on the ground, wounded. Polish mortar and artillery rounds tore the ground open, sending clouds of dirt into the ait.

Kurt Meyer ran back from the pinned down squad, to Hans's Sd.Kfz.232 heavy armoured car. "Hans, provide us with covering fire!" Hans's Sd.Kfz.232, nicknamed "Ludendorff", rumbled forward. "Fire!" screamed Hans, now an SS - Oberschaufuhrer, in charge of the vehicle. The small cannon and the MG34 in the vehicle fire rounds in a steady beat, sending Poles running around and screaming like frightened children, and several Polish soldiers lay dead, looking like bloodied dolls, with big holes in them from "Ludendorff"'s rounds. The small cannon tore apart a Polish machine gun nest, sending the crew, gun and sandbags flying into the air in a mist of blood. Leibstandarte men with fixed bayonets charged forward at the shocked and dazed Poles, and in close combat finished off or captured the survivors. Hans looked at the dead corpses, concerned and sweating. Kurt Meyer climed onto "Ludendorff", patted Hans on the shoulder and said "This is normal, it happens in war, we will have to see much more of this in the future!" Meyer was right.

cheers :D
