Waleed - you pipped Statemachine to the post!
The answer is indeed just those three little letters you mentioned - the OSS!
Miles Copeland Jnr...
...Stewart Copeland's father, though more famous for his later career in the CIA was a founding member of the O.S.S.
Operation Jedburgh was indeed named after the lowland Scottish town of Jedburgh - and after a period of joint American-British operations under that operational title, the O.S.S. took it over 100% as the British ran low on funding for their element of Jedburgh and the Americans took it over, becoming the O.S.S.' main operational contribution to the war in Europe and the Far East.
And of course at the very end, to reinforce the Jedburgh element...Darius Jedburgh, the most non-secret secret agent of them all; popcorn-eating, whisky-drinking, white Rolls Royce-driving ballroom dancing fan...
Woo, a race to the post, haven't had one of THOSE for ages in the thread!!!

P.S. let's NOT look at the awful 2009 remake of Troy Kennedy Martin's legendary TV drama......

Good riddle!
And sorry Statemachine.
I'll try this dancer next Name(s) (real name is the important one here!)
To begin with I'll only be giving YES & NO answers, so get going with the questions!

You got me there, Statemachine!
Can't answer yes or no here as I have no idea... Have not read a History mag for ages.
I know of this woman from several sources (not actually about her). She is never the less
almost always mentioned when looking into someone much more known.
I must admit it is not the best picture of her. There are much better looking pictures of her
on the net (though not many). I will also admit the picture posted is from her young years in Paris.
Here's another clue

PS. The YES/NO time has expired!

So she might be of French and Russian heritage.Believe she died not too long ago,the person most often mentioned is likely Mata Hari.

Phylo. Most certainly herself although her "husbands" are also interesting
but most of all her real name and one of her brothers!
Statemachine. Not Mata Hari although there is some resemblance to her.
She is not of French heritage!
