Hello Nate!

Post by Jason Petho »

Well I attempted to load WF on my new Dell! NO GO! I am really frustrated with the whole computer industry. Part of the problem I admit is that I am not a computer expert. I may have gotten the NT version of Win XP, which I did not order, but did tell the salesperson I utilize at work. I did specifically state that I wanted to be able to play computer games. If I am not mistaken, Win NT does not support that type of software. Looks like I will be spending hours talking to answering machines. Once they have your money no one wants to talk to you anymore! ARGHHHH!
My apologies for the tardiness.. I've been away. Alas, I'm back!

Regarding XP. As long as one has the patches available from Talonsoft, the games should (and do, as I run XP myself) run fine. You must install the patch before trying to run the game though.. otherwise, it will not work.

You can find the West Front patch here:

http://www.talonsoft.com/patches/westfront.html

The East Front 2 Patch here:

http://www.talonsoft.com/patches/eastfront2.html

Try reinstalling the West Front game and patching it. Make sure you install the patch in the west front folder! (sounds simple, but many make the mistake of not doing so.)

If you have issues still... drop me a note, and I'll find a solution :D

Hope all is well
Take care and good luck

Do not use Nvidia 40.XX Drivers. EF and WF have known problems with them.

Abwehr,

Could have used that info a while ago too. Was convinced by Gateway techie to get just that brand of video card. I guess my ignorance has cost me some green.

Do appreciate everyone's info and advice.

Best.

I was meandering about the blitz message board and came across this, which might be of some help!
...video card drivers over to the Nvidia Quadro 41.03's. They are really more of a CAD/Graphics design driver, but work great w/any 3D app...
The fela in question mentioned it solved his problem with EF and WF.

Hope all is well
Take care and good luck

Jason,

Have not been able to try to load WF and utilize the patches from the Talonsoft website as of yet. I have been visiting the family for Thanksgiving and just returned home. Really do appreciate the help and am going to try and attempt this week.

Will definitely let you know!

Best,

Nate

I am looking for a game regarding East Front which has palyability and thrill of Close Combat series but strategic ability as well.
If it's playability and thrill you're looking for, nothing beats Combat Mission 2: Barbarossa to Berlin. However, it lacks the strategic element. The game consists of single scenarios (battles) or operations (several scenarios forming a battle). Its greatest merit is combining both the turn-based and real time games' best qualities in a single package.

Try downloading one of the Combat Mission downloads from http://www.battlefront.com It's pretty cool, I haven't really had a chance to sit down and really play the computer. And it's 3D!
