Subhas Chandra Bose founded the Indian Legion that fought for the Germans. In fact, he was also commander in chief. The Legion became a part of Waffen-ss in 1944. Does that mean that Bose was formally a member of Waffen-ss?

Hello Henrik Anderson
Subhash Chandra Bose was commander in chief of indian legion also known as tiger legion from 1941 to 1943 .In 1943 Bose boarded a German U-boat and left for Japan and with their help he established provisinal govt. of india <azad hind> in occupied singapore.
During his tenure the unit was part of german army not of waffen ss ,after his departure Kurt Krapp became the new commander .On 8was aug the unit was transferred to ss and renamed Indische Freiwilligen Legion der Waffen-SS Command of the legion was very shortly transferred from Obersturmbannführer Kurt Krapp to Oberführer Heinz Bertling. The Indian personnel noticed a change of command was at hand and started to complain. Bertling soon agreed to be relieved of command.it means when unit became part of waffen ss mr.bose was not the commander but Kurt krap was the commander.
THANK YOU
