Ing. Eduard Chalupa was born on 22. November 1897. Army officer. Was member of interwar Vlajka (The Flag), fascist political party. In 1942 he was one of the founders of Kuratorium, pro-German youth organization, and its leader in Prague. From 1943 he led Detachments ZZ (oddíly zvláštního zasazení), groups of the most loyal young people. These groups (59 in total, on average with 30 members each) served during air raids and as informers. In March 1945 he was at the meeting which decided to set up Legion of St. Wenceslaus (Svatováclavská dobrovolnická rota, literally "St. Wenceslaus volunteer company", Freiwillige St. Wenzels-Rotte), Czechs volunteer group fighting for the Germans, drawed mainly from members of Kuratorium. The Legion attracted only about 80 volunteers. They started to train but the war ended before the unit could be deployed. On 5. May 1945 Czech insurgents arrived and demanded capitulation Chalupa first tried to organize defense but then burn all papers and capitulated. Legionnaires were interned, some joined the Prague uprising. After the war Chalupa was sentenced to long imprisonment, until 1970. He died on 17. September 1960. His relatives were forbidden to visit his funeral.
