5th Romanian Corps formed from Romanian Cavalry Corps?

Post by PreußensGlanz »

Hi
Some map entries give me a headache, I hope someone a clarify this.
I tried to track down when the 5th Romanian corps arrived in Summer 1942 at the Heeresgruppe Süd area.
The map does show that it was transported there, instead I see that Romanian cavalry corps designated from early August on as V cavalry corps, from 15th August on again as cavalry corps and at the same date the V Romanian corps is shown in Rostov.
So can it be that the V Romanian corps was formed from parts of the Romanian cavalry corps?
If not, when did the 5th Romanian corps arrive on the east front in Summer 1942?

Have you looked on the Romanian site that you were given the link to, it has good order of battle/campaign sections. According to Axworthy, V Corps had 5 and 6 Infantry Divisions while the Cavalry Corps had 5 , 6 and 9 Cavalry Divisions.
