Hello to all , a little report about the Italian troops in Crete in May 1941.............
Italian troops to Crete.
The Supreme Command issued the directive (following Mussolini’s orders) to collaborate with the occupation of Crete, therefore on May 27 of 1941 at 18:00 hours, a light convoy carried 2,685 men (Chafarro Regiment), 205 mules, 13 tanks and 4 vehicles weighed anchor of the Island of Rhodes.
The convoy included about 15 small boats and fishing boats, escorted by a destroyer, 4 torpedo boats and 6 speedboats. At night it sighted land in Scarpanto and by the following morning it determined course to Crete disembarking to the Gulf of Sitia.
The decisive contribution of the Italian forces to the conquest of Crete. In spite of the actions of the English Navy, the Italian Navy transported to Crete a motorized force.
