42nd Infantry Regiment - Hungarian Royal Army

Post by MichalG »

Im looking for detailed information about Hungarian 42nd Infantry Regiment and its mission from spring 1943 to April 1944. What I know:

SUBORDINATE TO 201st LIGHT DIVISION (VII. CORPS)

Kliment Ch. K. states in book Royal Army 1919-1945 that in september 1943 VII. Hungarian Corps consisted from 18., 19. and 21. Light Divisions. Later was strengthened by 201. Light Division. Corps was sent (with VIII. Corps) to eastern front to protect areas around Ukrainian cities Vinnica, Polonne, Koziatin and Berdichev.

When in November 1943 began Soviet offensive against Heeresgruppe Mitte, hungarian units were concentrated behind 4th Tank Army and 9th Army (Russians say it was 8th Army). According Russian book Battle For Dniepr before (on 01.11.1943) Soviet attack against Kiev in operational area of Soviet 1st Ukrainian Front were situated in rear of German units 4 Hungarian light divisions of VII. Corps. 201st Light Division was situated in city Berdichev and stuff in city Zhitomir. When Soviet forces captured city Fastov, 201st Light Division was drawn west.

According other Russian sources and memories from 21.03.1944 Soviet 1st Tank Army of General Katukov began attack in direction of cities Chortkov, Gorodienka, Kolomyja, Chernivtsi and Stanislav. From 25.03. to 27.03.1944 Soviets fought of city Gorodienka. There should be destroyed Hungarian Regiment (I think, that it was 42nd Infantry Regiment) and later around city Kolomyja capitulated whole 41st Hungarian Infantry Regiment. Both belonged to the 201st Light Division.

Can anybody help me?
