Report on Shitomir.

The German resistance in the East continues unabated. This is seen in the battlefield of Kiev and Shitomir. At the beginning of November 1943 far superior Soviet forces attacked the German positions north of Kiev. To prevent an imminent breakthrough, our troops, fighting heroic and tenaciously, were transferred to new positions to the west towards the rear. The Soviets tried by all means get the breakthrough.

Deep in the penetration area it was fought bitterly. On 13, 14 and 15 November 1943 a report of the High Command of the Armed Forces, reported fighting in Shitomir and north of the road and the withdrawal of German troops to new positions.

Report on Shitomir.

In the coming days, however, Army and Waffen-SS units were thrown into the counterattack in this area against the superior Soviet power.

Shitomir was surrounded and despite fierce resistance was recovered on November 20, 1943. With this success, the the enemy's planned attempt to break the front was rejected.

After heavy fighting the German armored spearhead was able to rip the Bolshevik defensive ring around Shitomir. Along with the armored grenadiers the tanks invaded the suburbs of the city.

Report on Shitomir.

At the heat of the struggle was the German infantry, which together with the tanks, was taking the fight to the city center breaking the pockets of resistance with tenacity and courage.

Against the positions of machine guns and heavy weapons, attacked the German tanks which opened fire against them, leaving behind a destroyed mass of steel, wheels and engines. New columns of infantry were coming and they joined the fight to defeat the last pockets of enemy resistance and after bitter fighting achieved the decision.

Although the city was again in German hands, still the thunder of the guns echoed to the east of it.
