Hello to all :D; brief info and doubt about it ......................................

Tank battle in Abganerovo - 90 kms from Stalingrado.

On August 12, 1942, the 24. Pz was subordinated to the 4th Pz Armee and marched from the sector of the Tschir through a Romanian bridge over the Don in Potemkinskaja and then to the area of Kotelnikowo Aksai to join the spearhead of the army, with the 14. Pz. and the 29. ID (Mot.) within the XXXXVIII. Pz Korps.

On August 18, 1942 advance against the South defensive position in Abganerovo. On August 20, the attack against the southern line of the Stalingrad defense began. The 24. Pz had the task of pressing through the Jergeni hill and then over Krasnoarmeisk in the Volga bend. On August 23, 1942 in the struggles for Height 118, 15 kms south of Krasnoarmeisk, was KIA the commander of PR 24, Oberst Riebel (shrapnel of artillery shells).

On August 29, 1942 at 6:30 hours, the 4th Pz Armee (Gen Oberst Hoth), with the 14. Pz, the 29. ID (Mot.) and 24. Pz, attacked the positions of the 64th Soviet Army (General Shumilov) Northwest of Abganerovo and at the same time threatened the 62nd Soviet Army (General Lopatin).

On Sunday, August 30, 1942 the 24. Pz formed a small bridgehead over the Karpovka, overwhelming the Soviet artillery positions in the rear and was the first German unit to break the interior defensive belt south of Stalingrad in Gawrilowka.

AFAIK the 64th Army had subordinates the 121st and 137th Tank Brigades, does anyone have more data on this? What other types of tanks did the Soviets has on hand? Cheers. Raúl M 8).

Hello to all :D; a little more about the Soviet OoB in this battle............................

Tank battle in Abganerovo - 90 kms from Stalingrado.

Tank Units strength of the South-Eastern Front as August 23, 1942.

At that time the 64th Soviet Army had assigned the following units:

The 13th Tank Corps with the brigades: 6th Guards (31 T-34 and 2 T-60), 13th (31 T-34) and 254th (30 T-34 and 12 T-70) with a total of 106 armored.
The 133st Independent Tank Brigade with 38 KV

In total the 64th Army had (nominally) 144 tanks of which 52 were operational (21 T-34, 3 T-70 and 28 KV).

But shortly afterwards on August 31, 1942, the 13th Corps was still there but now it was attached the 56th Independent Brigade with (27 T-34, 8 T-70 and 1 M-3). The 133rd Brigade now was subordinate to the Front.

No traces about the 121ª and 137ª Brigades......................

According to all the information I have found, obviously or the situation was quite fluid or the picture is not clear, because there is much difference between sources. Cheers. Raúl M 8).
