Hello to all :D; more...........................................

Defensive fights in Woronesch and the Don 1943.

K.Gr.S: The first group met the enemy on February 3 west of Gorshechnoye, repulsed them and left I. / GR 164 and III./ GR 217 as security. With continuous fighting, this group arrived to Repyevka, east of Tim, despite the heavy snowstorm.

The second group had to repel enemy attacks. The fire of all the weapons on the road of march caused considerable losses.

In the third group, on February 4, a Russian parliamentary was returned by Oberst Latz. The Russian also delivered a letter from the General Commander of the III. Hungarian Army Corps.

PAR 103: On February 3, 1943, the II./ PAR 103 delayed the opponent's action against the Mauss group. At noon, I. / PAR 103 reached the area 10 km north of Kursk with batteries 2, 3 and 9. Its commander received the order together with a Kampfgruppe Spandau (I. Battalion of PGR 33, an alarm battalion, I. / PAR 103 and scattered groups) to stop the enemy 25 km north of Kursk. The 1. Battery initially supported an advance of the Kessel Group of the 82nd Infantry Division at Kosorscha with good success. Then it fell back to Kursk.

II./ PAR 103 (4th, 5th, 6th, 8th) supported the newly formed Damerau battle group about 10 km east of Shchigry on February 4, 1943 and crushed enemy advances with high consumption of ammunition (around 1,000 rounds from a neighboring munitions depot). In the afternoon and in the evening they covered with heavy fire the retreat of the fighting group in the area 10 km west of Shchigry. The Spandau Combat Group, including I. / PAR 103, stopped at Ukolowo north of Kursk from noon.

GR 530: The Heidvogel Combat Group built a defense in the gap between the 45th Infantry Division and the 383rd Infantry Division near Kolbna in the Sosna on February 3, 1943. On February 4, 1943, the front was pushed towards Kischemka. The place must be kept, because parts of the 45th Infantry Division are encircled in on the left.

Ski-Btl 323: The battalion was not yet included in the retreat movement to the west. Rather, it was tasked with securing Rollbahn No. 17, including Berezovka, against enemy attacks from Bykowo. This necessitated another change of position. On February 4, the battalion had been ordered to evacuate Gorschetschnoje as a rear guard at dusk.

Hello to all :D; more...........................................

Defensive fights in Woronesch and the Don 1943.

K.Gr.S: Division command post (57.ID) on February 5, 1943 in Werch. Kleshenka.

PAR 103: On February 5, 1943 the II./ PAR 103 stopped the enemy west of Schtschigry with heavy ammunition consumption. The cold prevailed with about 25 ºC below zero. The 1. / PAR 103 supported the Baumgart Group in its advance east from Kursk to Tim. Further back followed the Staff of III./ PAR 103 and 8. Battery. At night the attack was called off. In Group Spandau around noon the I. / PAR 103 repulsed several enemy attacks, which nevertheless managed to break through at night.

The breakout was successful and marching along snow-covered back roads, under unspeakable hardships and fighting, the 340.ID arrived in Prilepy (east of Tim) on February 5, as part of the Beukemann Group, from there via Repezkaja Plota until Manturovo to link up with the Korpsgruppe Siebert (VII. AK) in constant struggle, because Tim had to be abandoned that day.

In the morning hours of February 5 the Ski-Btl 323 passed through Klyuch. Then it continued on Jefrossimowka - Repjewka about 14 km east of Tim.

Hello to all :D; more...........................................

Defensive fights in Woronesch and the Don 1943.

K.Gr.S: Division command post (57.ID) on February 6, 1943 in Werch. Apotschki. On February 7 in the morning Jefrossimowka and in the afternoon Bystrets.

On the afternoon of February 7th, the first Group Lenz encountered a stronger enemy in the middle of a heavy snowstorm 10 km east of Tim. It was learned from a captive Russian officer that Tim was in enemy hands. The K.Gr.S. he decided to “turn south and cut his way under Manturovo (Мантурово) to the southwest. The Lenz Group turned south, so did the second group. "

The order of the K.Gr.S. on February 7, stated:
“The situation requires breaking out very quickly, mobility is everything. Only sleds with ammunition, food and wounded are allowed. Except for field kitchens, communications equipment, and weapons with ammunition, everything must be destroyed. All horses that are released must be carried in the column. The fate of the Korpsgruppe depends on the execution of the orders. "

The Lenz Group on the night of February 7 took Pogosheye. The Latz Group had passed through Bystrets and Repyevka towards Prilepy.

PAR 103: On the night of February 5 to 6, 1943, the Spandau Group withdrew a few kilometers north of Kursk in heavy battles. It was replaced by the Mauss Battle Group, supported by I. / PAR 103 (2nd, 3rd, 7th, 9th) and supporting the Winogrobi section. The II. Group is in position on the outskirts of Kursk with the front facing east and, again with high consumption of ammunition, repels an enemy attempt. The III. Group is located south of the Sejm, where the Kursk retreat road runs west.

On February 7, 1943, I. / PAR 103 (2nd, 3rd, 9th) effectively supported the defense against various attacks against the Mauss Group. To the east, Batteries 1, 4 and 5 are fighting with heavy fire against the advancing enemy with considerable force. In the afternoon the III. Group with 2nd, 6th, 8th and 9th batteries supported an own attack near Sorino, south of Kursk, which however failed.

But Tim had been taken since February 6 and was therefore no longer a target. So, the retreat movement of Ski-Btl 323 was diverted to the southwest through Sassemskoye, Orljanka, Spartak, Marino towards Obojan.

Hello to all :D; more...........................................

Defensive fights in Woronesch and the Don 1943.

On the night of February 7 to 8, the highest authorities approved the evacuation of Kursk. The 7. Battery reinforces the Damerau Group south of the Sejm. In Kursk there are 2 batteries of each of the Groups I. and II. with fronts to the east and north and fight the approaching enemy with large amounts of ammunition. In the last two days, the regiment (PAR 103) fired around 9,000 rounds. With 7 trains plus wagons and columns, the division brought 3,270 tons of ammunition from Shchigry. In the afternoon, the 3. Battery left Kursk as part of the Stäuber Combat Group heading south to link up with the 26th Infantry Division in Korowino, 70 kilometers southeast of Kursk. At night, the last batteries that had supported the long battle in the city came out of Kursk.

Kursk was lost on February 8. Between Dimitrijew-Lgowski to Lgow and in the sector of Raut, the XIII. Army Corps was able to build a new front with the 327. Infantry Division and the 340. Infantry Division in mid-February 1943, with which in the Sudscha it was able to join the VII. Army Corps, which was still in trouble in the Psjel sector. After the German counteroffensive in Kharkov and during the Battle of Kursk, the XIII.AK was tasked with holding the Sevsk-Rylsk line.

On February 9, 1943, the front was already just south of the Malo-Arkhangelsk - Livny Rollbahn. The command post of the GR 530 was in Khmelevaya. On February 15, 1943, the positions were near Krutowski's Rollbahn. The order was given to maintain this route at all costs. It said: "The Rollbahn 11 must be held in all circumstances until the 45. ID and the 299.ID have left the main line of resistance." On that day Soßna was in Russian hands and the armored spearheads were in front of Federowka.

On February 9 the leading parts of the Korpsgruppe Siebert and the Beukemann Group were northeast of Manturovo. On February 14, 1943, the army (AOK 2) declared in an order of the day that its troops had escaped the encirclement. Even if the information provided here, as well as the OKW's (embellished) reports on the breakout, give the impression of an orderly withdrawal, this was more of a desperate flight from the units with high losses of its own personnel and especially material.

On February 13, Ski-Btl 323 finally reached Nagolnoye, about 20 km east of Obojan. Here Oberleutnant Bittermann ceded command of the battalion to Lt. Griesshammer because of the freezing he had suffered. Two companies were formed from the 104 NCOs and soldiers that still remained. On February 14, the battalion continued its march. At Obojan-Bushmino he crossed the defensive front of the 26th Infantry Division and reached Sudsha. Here the battalion was dissolved in the following days, the remaining companies were distributed in the 323. Infantry Division.

Hello to all :D; more...........................................

Defensive fights in Woronesch and the Don 1943.

From February 9 to 24, 1943, PAR 103 supported the retreat of the division from Kursk to Ligoff. What should be emphasized is the very high continued use of ammunition, made possible by the rear supply depots of the 2. Army that were counted on here. It was also necessary to compensate for the numerical superiority and high winter mobility of the opponent, who repeatedly strove to outflank the division. It is also noteworthy how the composition of the groups (Abteilungen) constantly changed to adapt them flexibly to the development of the situation on difficult roads and snow conditions. The 3rd Battery, separated with the Stäuber Group, returned to the regiment on February 13, 1943. The regiment fired around 11,100 lFH rounds, 3,940 sFH rounds, and 725 10 cm cannon rounds from 11 to 24 February of 1943, a total of about 525 tons, and therefore almost four-fifths of the division's total fire in tons. The numbers show the extent to which it was possible to highlight the rejection power of artillery fire.

On the night of February 16-17, 1943, the regiment (GR 530) reached its new position in the Kamenka - Kritowo area. The II Battalion had already occupied their trenches and was waiting for the III. Battalion. During this period, the enemy threatened to breach this gap. This danger can only be avoided at the last minute by the regiment with scattered soldiers, the regiment's sapper platoon and the 12th Company. The command post of the regiment was initially established at Novossiljewskij Ostroff. Since February 20, 1943, the command post of the regiment was then in Nikolojewka. On the swampy west bank of the Oserenka, a defense system with an exemplary fire plan will be created in a few days so that all enemy attacks can be repelled.

In the following days, the 340. ID, now divided, moved further south past Kursk via Medvenskoye and later via Bol. Soldatskoje, other parts via Obojan, Pavlovka (here it fought the GR 695 subordinate to the 68. Division Infantry) to the Ssudsha area. In order to renovate and reorganize the formations that were badly damaged and mixed up during the retreat, 340. ID and also 377. ID were directed to occupy Wiktorowka (on the Ssudsha - Lgoff railway line) as a gathering area, where the last parts of the division would arrive on February 20 (Pto Cdo of the division in Pogrebki). The following day, the commanders of both divisions met in this area to discuss the order to merge the 377. Infantry Division with the 340. Infantry Division in Novoiwanowka.
