Hello all,

I've read on a book that the 15cm sIG33(Sf) auf PzKpfw I Ausf B was used to equip sIG(Sf) Kompanien 701 to 706. And there Kompanien were allocated to six Panzer Divisions (poland, belgium and france campaign).

But could someone tell me more about the 701 - 706 sIG Kompanien? From which divisionen are they? These Kompanien are independant? from an infantery regiment? Is there a special insign? What is the composition of this typic Kompanie?

Thanks a lot for your help and xcuse my bad english!

Regards,
Falou

Hello!

These Infanteriegeschützkompanien were independent units which were just attached to tank divisions during the France campaign and also during the Balkan campaign. They were not organic element of any division.

sorry for nitpicking, but weren't they attached directly to schützenregiment/-brigade of panzerdivision ? i remember seeing on dr. Niehorster site diagram of PzDivs, and symbol of SigKompanie was inside of rectangle of infantry units. Basically this means they were subordinated to Rgt.Stab instead of DivStab ?

Also, they were attached to given units during 'Barbarossa' (at least first part of it), AFAIK.

15 cm sIG 33 auf Fahrgestell Panzerkampfwagen I Ausf B (Sf)

AFAIK the 705th and 706th belonging to the 7th and 10th Panzer Divisions respectively, were destroyed at this time. Only the 701st participated in the opening stages of the subsequent Case Blue in 1942, although it, and its parent 9th Panzer Division, were transferred to Army Group Center by the end of the summer of 1942..........................
