Hi all,
To return to the question of the original post, comparative analysis of both the 4.7cm Czech AT gun and the 5.0cm guns mounted on the Panzer III. If anyone is still following given the delay from the original post
PanzerJaeger I
4.7cm L/43 Pak(t) firing Pzgr36(t) penetrates 48mm at 500m Muzzle velocity 782m/s
Panzer III G/H/J
5.0cm L/42 Kwk38 firing Pzgr39 penetrates 46mm at 500m Muzzle velocity 685m/s
Panzer III J/L/M
5.0cm L/60 Kwk39 firing Pzgr39 penetrates 57mm at 500m Muzzle velocity 835m/s
T-34 Model1940 Armour Turret front & sides - 45mm, Hull front & sides - 45mm
T-34 Model1941 Armour Turret front & sides - 52mm, Hull front & sides - 45mm
It is clear that at typical combat ranges on the Eastern Front, 400-600m that both the 4.7cm Pak(t) and 5.0cm Kwk38 & Kwk39 firing Pzgr36(t) & Pzgr39 could penetrate all aspects of the T-34 Model1940 employed on the Eastern Front during 1941, but would have to close the range for the Model1941. The Germans could significantly boost their chances of a kill with the employment of the special Pzgr40 AP round with the Tungsten carbide core. The muzzle velocity is greatly increased thereby delivering more destructive power and would have little difficulty in penetrating the armour of both the Model1940 & Model1941 from all aspects. However I'm not sure how common the Pzgr40 round was during the opening year on the Eastern front.
To take the analysis a little further;
T-34 Model 1940
7.62cm L/30.5 L-11 firing BR-350 APHE penetrates 62mm at 500m Muzzle velocity 612m/s
T-34 Model 1941
7.62cm L/42.5 F-34 firing BR-350 APHE penetrates 69mm at 500m Muzzle velocity 655m/s
PanzerJaeger I Armour Turret front & sides - 14.5mm, Hull front & sides - 13mm
Panzer III G/H/J Armour Turret front & sides - 30mm, Hull front & sides - 30-60mm
Panzer III L/M Armour Turret front - 57mm,Turret sides - 30mm, Hull front - 50mm, Hull sides - 30mm.
