Which PzKpfw II

Post by David W »

The Mediterranean convoy M42 transported 12x PzKpfw II to North Africa. Were they Ausf C or Ausf F.
Thanks.
Thanks. Dave.

Hi Alan
According to this forum:
http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic. ... &start=255
and IMHO, I think it was on the 16th and 17th of december 1941. (Axis M42 convoy) but I don't know which ausf. the panzers had.
Best regards and sorry for my poor english

If it was December 1941 then the only Panzer II variant in production at that time was the F, so if the tanks were new, and why wouldn't they be, then they were probably F's.

Hello David,

Yes Alan is correct, these were Ausf. F.

3.Kp/8 Pz Reg landed in Benghazi on 19 December with 5 PzII Ausf F and 17 PzIII Ausf J
7.Kp/8 Pz Reg landed in Tripoli same date with 6 PzII Ausf F and 17 PzIII Ausf J

Ships carrying 3. & 7.Kp/5. Pz Reg were sunk on 19 December with the loss of 11 PzII & 34 PzIII.

A composite force from Pz Reg 8 & 5 (including the fresh 3.Kp/8 Pz Reg reinforcements) were in action with 22nd Armd Bgde by 28 December.

Hope this helps

Regards

David
