Skoda 7.5 cm Gebirgskanone M. 15

Post by David W »

I understand that this gun in German use was known as the 7.5cm GebK15.

I would like to know a little about the ammunition the Germans used with it in WWII.

Specifically the type and weight of H.E filler in the H.E round.

And the penetration statistics of the A.P round. (I have heard that these were poor due to low muzzle velocity).

Can anyone help please.
Thanks. Dave.

Hi David,

Information on the ammunition used in the 7.5cm Gebirgs Kanone 15 are as follows;

7.5cm HE round - Geb. G. 15 Al. (Gebirgs Granate 15 Aluminium)
Employed with 7.5cm Geb. K. 15 (Gebirgs Kanone 15)
Complete round - 15.75 inches overall length, 12lbs total weight
Projectile - 12.99 inches overall length with fuse, painted green
Charge - TNT/Aluminium 90/10 % and red phosphorus smoke box bursting charge with C/98 Np. Booster
Cartridge Case - 5.078 inches overall length with 11.6 ounces flaked nitroglycerine and nitrocellulose with nitroguanadine and C/12nA primer
Fuse - Nose percussion fuse A. Z. 23 Geb. Or Time and percussion fuse Dopp Z. s/60

7.5cm Hollow Charge round - 7.5cm Gr. 39 (Granate 39)
Employed with 7.5cm Geb. K. 15 (Gebirgs Kanone 15)
Complete round - 14.68 inches overall length, 9.9lbs total weight
Projectile - 11.181 inches overall length with fuse, painted green
Charge - Cyclonite/Wax/TNT Bursting charge
Cartridge Case - 5.078 inches overall length with 11.6 ounces flaked nitroglycerine and nitrocellulose with nitroguanadine and C/12nA primer
Fuse - Nose percussion fuse A. Z. 38

Unfortunately I don't have any penetration data for the Hollow charge AT round but you are right, the Gebirgs Kanone 15 had a low velocity, around 350 m/s muzzle velocity as it was only an L/15.4 calibre.

Hope this helps

Regards

David
