German issue weaponry

Post by sgriffin383 »

Can anyone guide me to a resource, or a previous post, for the german arsenal? I am more intersted in the personal issued weapons of the infantry. I am looking for the stats like max effective range, cyclic rate, etc. Something technical.

quick rundown...

k98
range- 600m w/ telescopic sight. perhaps even to 800. but practically, 300m or so is the effective range with irons.
cyclic- 25rpm or so, bolt action.
5 rounds, internal mag

g-43
range- more or less the same, probably less accurate than k98
semi-auto
10 rd. detachable mag.

MP-38/40
range- 100-150m
full auto, 550-600 rpm
32 rd detachable mag.

StG44
range- 300m max
500-600 rpm cyclic
30 round box mag

mg 34
range- 500m spray and pray
900 rpm cyclic
belt-fed in segments of fifty, belts can be linked together indefinitely (you get the point). 75 round double saddle drum also usable, must change upper receiver. belt can be kept in a metal can attached to side.

mg-42
range- same as 34, less accurate...
1200 (!) rpm cyclic.
50 round belts (same as mg34), can't use the saddle drum.

p-08 or p-38
range- less than 50m.
semi auto
8 mag.

ok, about ranges... 7.92x57 is a big round. so you can reach out and touch up to around 800 meters, but the problem is being able to hit guys at that range. so the problem lies in being able to git guys consistently at that range, which would be very hard to do with a 4x scope. MGs in that caliber can spray up to 1200m when tripod mounted, but that is more or less ammo wastage.
the 9mm things on the other hand... pistol rounds are effective to about 100-150 m. with pistols themselves, however, short barrel length means it is difficult to hit anything over 40 meters, and the round lacks stopping power at that range.
the StG's 7.92x33 kurz is an intermediate round, so it will be effective in 90% of WW2's combat scenarios (300m or less).

you know, you could try wikipedia... they will give you a general idea.

if you need something more specific... i'll be glad to help (if I can.)

cheers,
