Which model half tracks were the prime movers for the 17cm L/49 & the 21cm MRS18? I'm thinking 1941 - 1943.

Hello David!

The SdKfz 8 was used as prime mover for 15, 17 and 21 cm heavy guns while the SdKfz 9 was used for the 21 and 24 cm guns as well as as the 12,8 cm Flak gun of the Luftwaffe. Source: Bruce Quarrie's "Encyclopaedia of the German Army in the 20th Century" (1989).

What about the 8,8 cm Flak 18 series and 8,8 cm Pak 43, what were they towed with?

Hi LV,

Most commonly they were towed by the 8-ton SfKfz 7. There are however many pictures that show the 5-ton SdKfz 6, 12-ton SdKfz 8 and even a few with the 3-ton SdKfz 11.
Later in the war the schwere Wehrmacht Schlepper was often used to haul these guns.
Or anything else that was available and capable of hauling them.

Regards,

Paul

Hello to all :D; a little complement................................

Artillerie-Schlepper 604(r) - Artillery tractor 604 (r).

The Comintern (Russian Коминтерн) was a Soviet medium artillery tractor, which was used by the Red Army during the Second World War. The design of this vehicle, named after the Communist International, was developed in 1931; its mass production in the locomotive factory Kharkov ran from 1935 to 1940. A total of 1,798 tractors of this type were produced.

The Comintern tractors have been used successfully as a tractor for the heavy artillery of divisions and corps. The tractor was used for towing the artillery systems 107 mm Division Gun M1940 (M-60), 122 mm gun M1931 / s37 (A-19), 152-mm howitzer M1938 (M-10), and 152 mm gun/howitzer M1937 (ML-20). During the Russian campaign, the German army captured some of these tractors and put them under its own service with the name of artillerie-Schlepper 604 (r).

Hello to all :D; a little more..................................

Sd. Kfz. 7.

The standard tractor version of the Sd.Kfz. 7 could carry 12 men, including the driver, with their equipment and ammunition or supplies. The vehicle could tow up to 8,000kg (17,600 lbs) and was fitted with a winch able to pull 3,450kg (7,600 lbs).

The Sd.Kfz. 7 was used to tow the famous 88mm Flak guns, 105mm sK 18 heavy field artillery, heavy 150mm sFH 18 howitzers and other heavy artillery pieces.
