Brückenleger IV in action!

Brückenleger IV s (Sturmstegpanzer)

Built in parallel with the Brückenleger IV (bridge layer) in order to help the infantry in the assault on enemy positions by crossing over obstacles with extensible ladders. Its construction began in 1939 but only four of these vehicles were completed in June 1941 and were assigned to the 4. Platoon 3. Company Pz Pi Btl 39 (3. Pz Div), which used them during Barbarossa. The Brückenleger IV s were successfully employed on July 16, 1941 at the river Bassja crossing during the attack on Tschaussy. In some parts of the river it had a width of 25 m and in other 28 m so the two extensions (26 and 30 meters) were employed. Two of the vehicles were put out of service due to mechanical failures. (Report of Pz Pi Btl 39 dated August 13, 1941) ....................

Hello to all :D; something more........................

Brückenleger II in action!

AFAIK the panzer Abteilungen that equipped the German light divisions in the Polish campaign carried for trials a Recce Platoon (Pz Kw II Ausf. D/E) and one Sappers Platoon which had the brückenleger II. The Recce Platoon was fruitful according to after action reports, but the Sappers Platoon received some criticism and was seen as unnecessary; an after action report of Pz Abt 66 (2. Le Div) clarified that the few times that the element was used to support the advance of the tanks (cleaning minefields and laying bridges) did not justify the detachment had its own engineers.

Hello to all :D; something more........................

Brückenleger II in action!

In 1939, and taking into account, the low effectiveness of the Brückenleger I, 3 vehicles Brückenleger II were manufactured for testing. The superstructure was built by Magirus. The vehicles saw service during the Polish campaign.
