hello,
I'm trying to find out if the Wehrmacht(particularly Heer and Waffen SS) issued bayonets universally or only to soldiers whose rifle would accomodate one. thanks
question concerning issuance of bayonets in the Wehrmacht

Hi.
The Heer and Waffen SS both issued bayonets to all enlisted soldaten regardless of weapon. Period photos show bayonets in use with soldiers armed with MP40s and G/K43's and even MP44's.
The bayonet was considered to be the "sidearm" and was worn in place of a pistol for the lower ranks.
Hope this helps.
