During work hours, with the help of the train workers, 3 cases of schnapps got stolen from H.V.D. (Heeresverpflegungsdienststelle = army provisions office). Now there is trouble with those people. It does not occur to them share with the others. Leiner and Kumpfmuller are very drunk and vulgar.
September 21, Tuesday
Since yesterday, sitting in the railroad station. There is lots of flour, butter (whole barrels). There are clothes, boots and tons of meat. It is burning everywhere. A lot of our people believe that we won’t get away from here. Leave at 1:15 pm from Unetscha.

We are sitting outside of Klinski on open track, all around us buildings are burning. We were still able to find one horse, chickens, tomatoes. No luck finding bacon.
September 23, Thursday
Going back to the farm again but everything was looted already. Did get one larger and one smaller calf. Butchered them in the meadow. Went with Zauner to the other side of the tracks to a small village. Got 8 chickens and later there are 30 more. In every rail car people are binging. At noon, we had stew with a huge piece of veal and a piece of pork. Later we still had rabbit.

Nowosybkow. The ration quarters were opened up. One can get anything: salt, spaghetti, thread, coffee ersatz.
