Was the Volkssturm under Wehrmacht or SS record keeping?
Meaning, were they like a lower SS or a lower Heer? Or, were they an individualized militia supplied by the NSDAP kind of like the HJ?

the volkssturm was formed by the nsdap as a political army. the volkssturm was also a organisation to control the people. hitler said that something like the revolution in 1918 cannot happen again when every man in the age of 16 - 60 is in the volkssturm. the nazis believed that the volkssturm-member would fight harder cause of the propaganda than the wehrmacht ( 20 july 44 ) or Waffen-SS (Ardennen).
