Post by Philip »

Would this be obervormann, if so, how can I translate this rank to a english rank?

"Wehrmacht Auxilary Forces" by Osprey publishing, states on page 43 that an Obervormann was equal to a WW II British L/CPL.

My German dictionary by Bantam states that Vormacht means leading power. Common sense tells me that an Obervormann would be a Senior
Foreman or a Leading Foreman. Remember, this was not a NCO rank.

I'm sure that a native speaker can give a better translation.

Good hunting

Hello!

The translation Joe provided is correct. As in all these "rank matters" there is no use to give the equivalent of another army because especially here we are speaking of a totally different kind of formation. The RAD was a labor unit and the equivalent to an english rank has no use at all because these two ranks have so much in common like apples and bulldozers.
Have a look at the rank chart of my site to see the position of a Obervormann in the hierarchy.
