Info/Pictures of SS-Ostubaf.Meierdress(Oak Leaves)

Post by Hardigan »

Hello People

I'm looking for pictures or any info of Panzer-Off. SS-Ostubaf.Erwin Meierdress (Oak Leaves) of the SS-TK division ! I need to know everything about him !
Was he also a GC(Gold) and Pz.K.Abz.(75/100) recipient ? Does anybody know ?

He also was from '34 in the "LSSAH" and later on in the SS-VT as an officer , does anybody have a picture or any info of him in those days ?

Thanks a lot

Hello Hardigan!

SS-Sturmbannführer Hubert-Erwin Meierdress led the armored assault along the main street of Dunaalmas (hungarian: Almásfüzito) towards the church. The Russians already having mine fields and Pak lines, got hastily reinforced with a tank unit with T34/85's, placing them in good defensive positions in gardens/farm houses along the main street. Meierdress, in face of this new heavy opposition, hastily stressed on with the assault and consequently got his command Panther shot up and died. This combat took place on January 2, 1945.

Source: Karl Ullrich's "Wie ein Fels im Meer - Band II" (reprinted 1999).

By the way, the above mentioned book lists all recipients in the 3. SS-Panzerdivision "Totenkopf" of the German Cross in Gold and Meierdress is NOT listed. Likewise he did NOT recieve the "Ehrenblattspange", nor the "Goldene Nahkampfspange".

Hello again Hardigan!

Yes, there are 2-3 good pictures of Meierdress in the first volume of Ullrich' book, i e "Wie ein Fels im Meer - 3. SS-Panzerdivision Totenkopf im Bild, Band I". It's a great volume with many interesting photos and I think it's also been re-released in the late 90-ties. My copy is the original Munin Verlag issue from 1984.

Hardigan!

On this danish site on Ritterkreuzträger in the Waffen-SS you'll find a picture of Meierdress (not the same as on http://www.das-ritterkreuz.de):

Hello Doktor Krollspell,
this may be an irrelevant question, but I have been wondering for quiet a while about the use caps or hats. From the pic of E. Meierdress below (with sunglasses) one can see M. with the officers-hat on. Now, to his right we see an (apparently very young) officer, wearing the same hat (Offiziersmütze in german). Now was this handled by rank, say all officers were entitled to wear this all the time. Or was it worn by officers who were in particular positions, like commander of a company or as Lt of a platoon etc. Another example is the commander of an U-Boot frequently seen with the white navy version, signalling: Here is the boss.
Can anybody give info, thanks,

Hello to all :D; more..........................................

Hubert-Erwin Meierdress.

After the Campaign of France 1940, he was placed in charge of a platoon of StuG IIIs in the artillery regiment's assault gun unit, SS-Sturmgeschutze-Batterie Totenkopf. On November 9, 1940, Meierdrees was promoted to SS-Obersturmfuhrer (First Lieutenant).

For his actions in commanding his battlegroup around Byakovo, Meierdrees was awarded the Iron Cross, first class. In early February, the Soviets captured Byakovo, cutting off the Totenkopf, including Meierdress' force from the main German force, II. Armeekorps, encircled around Demyansk itself.

On February 18, Meierdress was seriously wounded. On 21 February, Meierdress was flown out of the pocket in a Fieseler Fi 156 Storch to an SS field hospital. On 13 March 1942, Meierdrees was awarded the Knight's Cross in recognition of his courage and resourcefulness while encircled near Byakovo.
