Panzer Assault Badge

Post by Josef Weiss »

Hello,

Having a difficult time finding a definitive answer to this question: Would those serving within an Aufklärungs-Abteilung, in 1944, receive the Infantry Assault Badge or Panzer Assault Badge ? Or would it depend on the type of Company. within the Battalion, the person receiving the Badge served in ?

If he was serving as motorised infantry then a bronze version of the Infanterie Sturmabzeichen. If armoured crew member then Panzerkampfabzeichen.

So Simon, is it then safe to assume that a Panzergrenadier, serving within a Panzeraufklärungskompanie, under a Panzer-Aufkl.Abt. would then receive a Infanterie Sturmabzeichen ?

As the Pz.aufkl.kp. was exclusively outfitted with Sdkfz 250/251's

Except for the ones outfitted with VW or Schwimmwagen of course, The vehicle in which he travelled did not make any difference to a man involved in an Infantry Assault as far as the award went.
Just why would an infantryman, by whatever name, get the Tank Combat award ?
