Service records 2. SS-Division

Post by Wiser11 »

Where would I begin to look for any kind of service record for a medic in the 2. SS-Division, ca 1944? Feldpostnummer was 34 192? Thanks.

Wiser,

you could try the B.A Berlin for his BDC file, (if it exists) a visit is best, or use the services of a credited researcher.

Hello,

Such a thing like a "service record" does just exist for officers from either NARA or BA.
To get a summary of the personal files you have to contact Deutsche Dienststelle WAST and fill out an form where you ask for the informations.

A belated thought;

you could also contact the German Red Cross for his May 1945 prisoner of war card?

I further received this in a letter from the German Red Cross. Can anyone give me further details on what these mean:

"SS Mann in der SS Kavallerie Ersatz und Ausbildungs Abteilung Cholm b. Lublin", also, " Vermisstenbildliste DRI-Suchdienst München Band WE Seite 152, ohne Bild letzte eigene Nachricht: Jan. 1945, Stettin."

Where might I find more information about what these refer to?

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hello,

This is his Training/recruiting unit:
SS Kavallerie Ersatz und Ausbildungs Abteilung Cholm b. Lublin

THe second refers to an entry in the missing soldiers book of the german red cross where he has an entry.
At this link the page in question was posted but the link does not longer exist... maybe you contact the thread starter if he can send you the page in question.
