Search for Camp Orbeck, near Osnabruck.

Post by Landwacht »

Hello, Just new registered here but following some items for past months.

Currently I obtained info on my late Grandfather's return from a WWII camp.

On the US A.E.F. D.P Registration Record shows he has been detained in ORBECK near Osnabruck.
For that camp site name there are no records I know of.
I don't know wheter it was a particular POW camp. The A.E.F. record says concentrationcamp.
He must have been detained there since the early start of the war since his Dutch regiment has been
captured at "De grebbenberg" Near Rhenen and there is no record of anny other camp.

The Ems line Camps do not suit the description, since the are way off north-west from Osnabruck.
The only possible link is a small Town lane called Orbeck near Oldendorf, East of Osnabruck.

Since camps are SS administrations I think this post might suit this part of the Forum.

Orbeck should read Ohrbeck I found out. It is falsly written on his AEF card.
Thanks to Kevin at go2war.nl.

Bit silly to notice it only missed the H in ohrbeck. Never the less it does'n show
on the common lager maps on known sites. Is that perhaps since it was arbeitserziehungslager?

More info still welcome.
