Canadians. I don't think it was proven that he gave any order to that effect though.

I think if Sepp Dietrich died, he would have been replaced, and operations, strategy, tactics would change a bit.

Guderian & Dietrich

I remember reading in a few books that Guderian & Sepp Dietrich actually got on quite well; a mutual respect existed between them that Dietrich didnt enjoy with some of the other senior Heer personnel.
He (Dietrich) must have been an inspirational leader to hs men in the Liebstandarte & later in the 6th SS Panzer Army, from all accounts that I have read (in various books).
While he didnt have the military nous & background of a "Papa" Hausser, Dietrich was still a very respected leader (even though he was labelled by many as being an uneducated beer swilling thug), a fact that was reflected by the very large attendance of former comrades, at his funeral in April 1966.
