Cammo pattern in U Boats 1939.

Post by tigre »

Hello to all :D; a little query................

Camouflage patterns of German submersible in 1939.

My question is whether there was a intended pattern design or if it was a more or less kaleun's free election? In 1939 U 25 and U 40 carried camouflage during their patrols for example, but in early 1939 U 33 had a distinctive camouflage scheme while visiting the port of Bremen 4-6 February 1939. Any purpose on it? Experiment, show? In the photos we see the U-Flotille Saltzwedel during the visit, in which contrasts visibly the U-33.

Hello to all :D; a couple of pictures................

Camouflage patterns of German U boats in 1939.

One of the two submarines that carried camouflaging schemes during her operational patrols in 1939, U 40 (Type IXA) wear it on the conning tower only. The question is: when she got the cammo painting? before sailing in August 1939 or after the first patrol? .................

The KTB U-Bootwaffe. 1939. Das Kriegstagebuch der U-Bootwaffe von Roland Berr, stated for September 18, 1939: the U 40 came back after her first war patrol to Wilhelmshaven. The boat was 31 days at sea. U 40 will be overhauled in Wilhelmshaven.

Hello to all :D; a little more................

Camouflage patterns of German U boats in 1939.

While wandering on the net I found this other photo of the U 33 with cammo scheme. The author states that this scheme was testing in Spain but it was not effective. Now the only question to me is that the author puts the picture in Bremerhaven in 1937 and I've found two visits carried out by Flotilla Saltzwedel, one to Hamburg in December 1937 and the one registered in the Golden Book of Bremen in February 1939. The latter is close to the U-Bootwaffe's vast maneuver on May 1939 west of the Bay of Biscay and off the coast of the Iberian Peninsula. There took part 15 U boats (Type VIIA and IXA), a tanker, a cargo ship, a tender ship and command and control ship. I still biting the date of the visit ..................................

Hello to all :D; after a while a little more.................

Camouflage patterns of German U Boats in 1939.

AFAIK until now, in the summer of 1939 (before the war) the U Bootwaffe experimented with several camouflage schemes, although apparently without positive results ...................

I think that at the beginning of the war, she did not wear the cammo pattern anymore, but what about the emblems? TIA.Cheers. Raul M 8).
