Kannonenboot K2

Post by dandy530 »

I recently received several pictures with what looks like Kannonenboot and sometimes just K2 written on the back. A relative was on this boat from 1942-1944 and it appears the Commander's name was Zilger or maybe Bilger. One picture show a boat in a Norwegian Harbor. Another picture show a town along the water and on the back it states something like "Dauermark ein Paradies im Kriege" Does anyone have any information about this boat and its mission/fate?

Well this is what http://www.german-navy.de/kriegsmarine/ ... index.html has to say about K2 (in general terms) but as you can see it mentions that all four of the class, K1 - K4, were cancelled in Sept 1939.
Can you post the picture?

Thanks for the response. I have several pictures taken on board the boat, including one of the Commandant, but none of the boat. I tried to paste them here but it would not let me. I will try again if someone tells me how to add the pictures.

To add pictures just use the Uplaod Attachment option when posting a reply. Make sure the photos are within the specified limits and just click on Browse, select the picture you wish to post and then click Add The File. The photos will then appear in your post.

Not sure what ship this is but judging by the images on the previously mentioned website the K2 (and class) were not planned to be fitted with a gun turret such as seen in the photos. The shield on the bridge screen might be a big clue as to what ship this is.

EDIT: I have just had a look through the above mentioned website and there was indeed a K2 in Kriegsmarine service. It wasn't the one named as an original German built but one captured after the invasion of the Netherlands in 1940. Here is the link...
http://www.german-navy.de/kriegsmarine ... index.html

...and judging by the image it does have the same type of gun turret.

I found another picture and this might be an actual picture of K2. Thanks to all for your help.
