Many thanks for the reply. I'll try the site you suggest but if you think of anything more please let me know.
Re: Osorno
Also try the book "Schwarze Schiffe, Weite See" by Jochen Brennecke.

Thanks for the latest information Visje.
Re: Osorno
Hi,
Unfortunately the book has only been published in German, as far as I know. If you do read German, you can usually pick it up cheaply at eBay for example.

F.Almeida / Visje,
Thank you for replying to Glynn Griffith query on this website, he has been assiting me in a 'Blockade Runner' problem of mine and has pointed me to 'Feldgrau'. Your answers have been most rewarding, I can now look at aircraft (Sunderland) Biscay losses against outward sailing dates. Meanwhile perhaps someone could have an answer to my problem, remember I have no names, dates or anything conclusive except that the ships doctor wrote a report on the amputation of the airmans leg en route to the Far East (Batavia) here is the problem:-
My Bay of Biscay problem is a strange one, no names date, in fact very little information . I am looking for an airman, a sole survivor, from an RAF Short Sunderland shot down by a German merchant ship (Blockade runner) heading for the Far East , The Sunderland had a sole survivor who was picked up by the runner and had a leg amputated by the ships doctor and ended in a Jap POW camp on Java? The Ships doctor I understand, wrote a report of the leg amputation, where it could be found, I do not know.
The above has been told to me by an English former sailor from HMS Jupiter who was a prisoner of the Japanese in Batavia, Java. He met the airman at the closing stages of the war.
I am aiming for the name of the 'blockade runner', ships doctor's name, the airman's name, in fact anything that you may have access to in your records.
Thank you for taking the time to read this rather long signal. Obviously, it will take time so I thank you in anticipation.
Arthur.

Re: blokkade runner
Hi all,
I think I have found the incident in Brennecke's book. The freighter Weserland left France in Mid september 1942. She was attacked by a Sunderland flying boat, which the ship brought down with her Flak. There were apparently two survivors of the aircraft, which were picked up. One had heavy burns, the other had been shot in the legs. One leg was amputated. The ship apparently docked in Yokohama, but I don't have any dates to go with it (not a strong point of Brennecke's book).
Weserland, ex-Ermland was a Hapag ship of 6528 tons. Master was Kapitän Krage.

Re: blokkade runner
Greetings All,
Doe's anyone know how I can contact Jocham Brennecke author of 'Schwartz Schiffe - Weite See' ? This is to obtain the date of the action in which 'blockade runner' Weserland shot down an RAF Sunderland.
Thanks
