What was the most common deck gun used on U-Boats and what caliber was it and what other size guns were used?

Earlier in WWII many uboats had deck guns but as the war progressed they were removed and replaced with various types of anti-aircraft guns. The most common deck guns used would likely have been 88mm or 105mm guns.

Hope this helps!

Type I A, Type IX A, IX B and IX C

88 mm deck gun (sidenote)

as a comment, the 88mm deck gun on most boats, altought of same caliber as the famous 88 flack gun, used propietary ammo, ie: not interchangeable with the land based version.

explosive was used to cut radio masts on enemy freighters and armor piercing was used to put holes on the ships when they wouldn't sink due to air trapped on bulkheads....
