U A, under Kapitänleutnant Hans Cohausz, left Kiel on 06.06.1940. After the march through the Kaiser Wilhelm Canal, as well as being escorted to Brunsbüttel, the boat operated in the North and Central Atlantic, the Canary and Cape Verde Islands, and off Freetown. The boat was supplied by the PENGUIN on July 18, 1940 with 85 m³ of fuel, on July 19, 1940 with lubricating oil, fresh bread, drinking and washing water, on July 21, 1940 with artillery ammunition, on July 23, 1940 with four torpedoes, on July 24, 1940 with seven Torpedoes, and on July 25, 1940 with the rest of fuel and provisions. U A was able to sink 7 ships with a total of 40,606 GRT on this sail. The return march led via Wilhelmshaven (escort), Brunsbüttel, and the Kaiser Wilhelm Canal to Kiel. After 85 days and covered about 15,250 nm, U A returned to Kiel on 08/30/1940.
