Kampfgeschwader 54
Kampfgeschwader 54
Question regarding Kampfgeschwader 54 in March 1944.... Based on the info in the Luftwaffe section of this website, II Gruppe (6. KG 54) was located in the Marx-Laon/Athies area in Northeastern France (not far from the Belgian border) during the early part of the year. At this stage of the war, before the Normandy invasion, what type of action was this unit invlolved with at the time? Patrolling the English Channel perhaps?
Re: Kampfgeschwader 54
I know KG 51 were being trained to fly Me 410's and surplus crews were moved to infantry or squadrons short of personnel.
These were both jagdbomber 410's for nuissance raids on England and fighters for attacking allied formations.
Not sure if 54 would have gone the same way.
