Luftwaffe General Staff Officers... HELP NEEDED

Post by PaulR »

ello,

I have a couple of General Staff Officer questions, focused toward the Luftwaffe.

1. What is the minimum rank that could be held by a member of the General Staff? I was informed that it was Hauptmann. Is this a myth or fact?

Please site your reference, if you can.

2. Also, are there any General Staff Officer Listings/Rosters anywhere for the Luftwaffe?

Kind regards
Paul

I just won this baby off Ebay. Maybe this will help a bit... Many long hours with a computer translator in my future!

Thank you. I have read that book. It is a good one. I did not know if the ranking was ever reduced to Oberlt at any point or time?

The reason I ask is that I have a set of LW collar tabs in Carmine. The only use for Carmine officer tabs in the Luftwaffe (that I know of anyway) is for the General Staff. They are ranked for Oberlt. Maybe there is another use for Carmine Officer tabs in the luftwaffe?

The best source for officer postings in the Luftwaffe I've come across is

'Die Deutsche Luftwaffe 1939-1945' by Kurt Mehner & Reinhard Teuber.

It lists all the commanders of the various elements of the air ministry and OKL plus the Luftgau, air units, FLAK, Luftwaffe field divisions, construction units etc

There are 'rangliste' books available for a set date but the above covers the whole war.
