if I have this right, Galland wasn't flying between 41-44ish? from what I remember, he spend some of that time verbally dogfighting his superiors - arguably an equally hazardous activity in those days??

His autobio "The first and the last" or the bio "General der Jagdflieger"?

To my Shame, I have to answer, I read no Book written by Galland.

I am concentrated on the Me163 "Komet", and Major Wolfgang Späte, whom I knew personally, another Ace, and a very fine Person he was...

I remember the elder Wolfgang Späte often...

Herr Späte never talked about the so called "Enemies", he talked about "Pilots", and he respected them, for being a Pilot himself.

He was not a "Hero", just a Pilot, a young Man, who received a Ritterkreuz, for many Reasons...

Späte wrote 3 Books, about himself, the Me163, and he wrote "Alles was mit F anfängt", one rare Copy is in my Bookshelf.
