Kavallerie-Divisionen questions

Post by Paulus II »

Hi all,

Can anyone tell me about the supporting units that were part of the Reichsheer Kavallerie-Divisionen?

The Reiter-Regimente and their composition are all clear (well…..reasonably clear) but I haven’t been able to find anything about the divisions having Aufklärungs- or Pioniere- and other such units. Also wondering about divisional artillery or an artillery regiment, did they have such a thing? Composition of the Divisionsstab is also a very dark grey area.

And a question about “Kavallerie der Wehrmacht” by Klaus Christian Richter, I’m thinking of buying this book but would like an opinion of fellow members about its quality before I do so.

Any and all information is most welcome, thanks in advance,

Best regards,

Paul

Hi Paul,

Whilst I can't help... I know a man who can. Jan-Hendrik is our resident cavalry expert aided by his other half (they're also both horse riders). It's worth dropping in on his Panzer-Archiv forum as there is reams of stuff on Wehrmacht cavalry divisions over there.
No-one who speaks German could be an evil man

Thank you Richard, I'll hop over and look around there.

Never knew about the cavalrylove of Jan-Hendrik but I should have thought of Panzer-Archiv, even for this non Panzer question!

Thanks again,

Paul

"Kavallerie der Wehrmacht" is more a pictoral overview  More detailed is "Die Geschichte der deutschen Kavallerie 1919-1945" by Mr. Rchter, see

Review by Tobias Giebel

One may ought that Mr. Richter is a personal friend of mine, but this one is definitly the most comprehensive book on this topic
