Bayern Wacht

Post by Eric Hillebrand »

Can anyone tell me anything about this unit? It appears that they wore an oval metal arm shield with a walking lion and the unit title underneath.
Any info would be appreciated!

Hello Eric!

The Bayernwacht was the strong arm (para-military) of the BVP, the Bayrische Volkspartei (the Bavarian People's Party) in the twenties and thirties. It was at one time the biggest party in Bavaria. The Bayernwacht was led by Hans Ritter von Lex and was, together with the party dissolved in 1933 after Hitler's and NSDAP's Machtübernamung. Some links and a pic...

Herr Doktor,
Thank you for the info on tis unit. I did not know that it was political, I thought that it might be a more military Freikorps type unit. Now I can dig a little deeper!
