Tel-Zügen AJR. Nr. 9 (Austrian Pre-Anschluss)

Post by Doktor Krollspell »

Hello!

I have in my possession a Feldpost card from 1942 adressed to an Austrian family in Graz, Gau Steiermark. The sender remembers a dead comrade and talks about their military duty in Austria BEFORE Anschluss...
Wir kanten uns seit 1930-37 und sein Heldentod geht mir recht nahe. Alte Erinnerungen die wir erlebten bei den Tel-Zügen AJR. Nr. 9 wurden wieder wach gerufen.
So my question is simply, what kind of unit was the Tel-Zügen AJR. Nr. 9?

Regards,

Tel.: Telegraphen, GE: Nachrichten, EN: signals unit

AJR: Alpenjägerregiment

The unit is from Styria and later became part of Gebirgsjägerregiment 138 (3. Gebirgsdivision).

Hello Stauffenberg!

Thank you very much for your help. Of course the "A" stands for Alpen... I should have guessed so! At least one of my Great Uncles served in this unit in the thirties and was later killed on the Eastern front in late 1941, hence the Feldpost card from his old comrade.

I have a serie of very good photographs of Austrian army physical training i the mid-thirties that probably was from the Tel-Zügen AJR. Nr. 9. I will upgrade my entire computer situation in a month or so and then post them here on Feldgrau.

With best regards,

Krollspell

So, I finally managed to fullfill my own promise when it came to scanning those photographs of the Alpenjäger-Regiment 9 of the Bundesheer. The photos are on the "Photo" section... Just follow link:
